Lincoln Ends...

....Glad it's over... I didn't go to help take down as I had to work during the evening and I wasn't prepared to spend any more money on the venture. Judy very kindly took my work for me.

Evaluating The Envisulasion Of Lincoln...

What can I say...well...disappointing all round. Very poorly and unprofessionally prepared. It was agreed within the group that we would all manage the gallery in pairs so that noone is there on their own, it gave the other person time for a bit of a break and for a bit of company. I was informed yesterday that I would be on my own. Upon arriving I found that I had to pay £8 to park for the day which frustrated me further. I did have a lovely couple that came in to have a look around and they were very impressed with my art and I spent a great deal of time talking to them about the other artists in the group, whereupon they thought I was one of the tutors, which was quite funny. But my mood soon came back to a dark place when a lady asked how much one of the paintings was, I replied that I didn't know as there were no prices on anything. I did inform her that the artist in question would be in the following day and that they would give her more details if she was to return. She then inquired on how to pay, to which, again, I had no answer as no one had let me know. We should have had a price list or just the phone numbers of the artists so that I could have rung them straight way, but we didn't. I also had no way of contacting anyone, other than on Facebook, This happened again when a lady popped her head around the corner of the door to enquire the price of one of the works in the window. Again I had to say that I didn't know. I did relay this to the rest of the group when I got home on Facebook to get the reply that there was a list, but noone had thought to tell me where it was! The dissaray with this exhibition as opposed to the Steel Rooms is shocking. I am extremely dissapointed with its disorganization. With the first exhibition we took our time to get every aspect right. With this one it was a bunch of amateurs cobbling together some artwork, sticking a name on it and showing it in a room. The theme undercurrent was completely lost.This is the first time that I have become disillusioned by the group, Could it have been better? YES! If I were given the FULL details of this exhibition when it was first proposed ie; £95 for the week, 4 trips to and from the gallery (Setting Up, The Opening, The Envisualisation, The Taking Down) totaling 8 hours of driving, the £8 for parking, the basics, just these alone would have made me question the validity of taking on the exhibition. Compare with The Steel Rooms, £0 for 2 weeks 3 trips to and from the gallery (Setting Up, Opening Taking Down) totaling 2 hours of driving £0 for parking. This is something that I do need to address when looking at venues for myself. Just the basic cost.

Lincoln Opening...

Today the Lincoln Exhibition opened. I didn't go because I just couldn't afford it. I'm there again on Thursday to look after the gallery as someone from the group has to open and close the gallery.every day, 10 until 4. It was, however, great that Jason managed to get the mayor of Lincoln to open it!!!

Off To Lincoln....

I drove down to Lincoln this morning to drop off my artwork at the Gallery at St Martins. I must admit that my first thoughts of the place was not good. It was a tiny place, as big as a living room knocked through into half of a dining room, off the main road in a tiny street. Judy and Rikki were already there when I arrived and it took me all of half an hour to unload my pictures and hang them. then get back on the road to drive the hour long journey home. I must say that I am not happy. Not with the gallery nor the fact that I have spent 2 hours driving to literally put a few pictures up. I ubderstand that this is for the group, but if this were my own exhibition I don't think that it would be a gallery I would like to be exhibiting in. If there is no return on anything here, then for me it would only be a pointless and expensive exercise. Too far, too small, too out of the way, too expensive.

Steel rooms End...

Well, today we took everything down at the Steel Rooms. A bit sad really because I really liked this place. It was a shame that not everyone from the group made it to take their own pieces down, but understandable as people have work and family commitments, it's just  difficult handling other peoples artwork and taking so much care over them. Patrick, again, was on hand to help and was very positive about the exhibition! Considering that this was our first ever exhibition as a group, I thin kwe did extremely well. It was a shame, but it was also nice to see, that as we were taking our work down people were still coming in to have a look!
I don't think that I will be showing the performance dvd at the next shows, they just don't work.
All in all, a great start!!!
